Salmon!

Went for a nice hike today over in North Vancouver with my friends Tim and Kate. There’s a nice trail through the woods from the Cleveland dam to the Capilano Salmon Hatchery.

We got to see people fishing along the way. Lots of fish in the streams. So many people trying there luck. It’s been raining on and off all week so the forest smelled amazing with all the trees and damp earth. Arriving at just below the hatchery there’s a big spillway where you can watch the salmon jump and try to make it up to the next section of water. I took lots of photos and managed to catch some in the air. Didn’t see any fish actually succeed at making it sadly. Think there’s a side chute that they open from time to time to allow them to make it through and up. They breed several kinds of salmon there. As many as 600,000 of some of the breeds are hatched and released each year. Good day out for sure.
